Contra Costa Blvd. Improvement Project - Work Is Underway!
Updated September 22, 2016

Work for the Contra Costa Blvd. Improvement Project, from Beth / Doray Dr. to Harriet Dr., is underway.  Impacts to traffic will mostly take place between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm, M-F, and will include lane closures in both directions plus closures of left turn pockets as required for construction activities and as needed for safety of the traveling public.  At least one lane in each direction will be provided at all times.  Expect 15 minute delays.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times on the east side of Contra Costa Blvd. via delineators, cones, and signs.  Driveway access will also be maintained at all times for residents and businesses along Contra Costa Blvd.

Thank you for your patience as the City of Pleasant Hill works to improve the safety, efficiency, and aesthetics of Contra Costa Blvd.

Updated July 29, 2016.
The City hired an independent arborist to evaluate the health of trees along Contra Costa Boulevard (CCB) within the public right-of-way (ROW). The arborist identified trees along CCB between Harriet Drive and Beth Drive that are in poor health, diseased, damaging adjacent sidewalks/pathways, raise toppling concerns or were not compatible with the new CCB sidewalk improvement project.

The City has issued an encroachment permit to PG&E to remove these trees, as they also present potential risks to PG&E facilities and other utility lines. PG&E will be conducting public outreach to adjacent properties to inform them about their removal work. Tree removal crews will begin work the week of July 25th and are expected to be done within a few weeks. The CCB Improvement project will follow and will install new landscaping and trees in the upcoming months. Work and traffic control is limited to between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to lessen the impact to the public. Motorists and pedestrians may encounter minor inconvenience when work is in progress.

Updated July 15, 2016
Comcast – 1200 Contra Costa Blvd. – The City previously issued a permit to pothole existing utilities along northbound Contra Costa Blvd. for placement of a new underground telecommunications conduit. The pothole work is complete, and approval is being given to allow the contractor to proceed with the new conduit placement.

The new conduit will be constructed using the directional bore method. The work requires temporary traffic controls and use of a flashing arrow sign to close one northbound travel lane between Harriet Dr. and Taylor Blvd. when work is in progress. Work in the roadway is being limited to between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to minimize impacts on traffic. The directional bore work is estimated to begin Monday, July 18th. The conduit work, including final pavement/sidewalk restoration, is estimated to take between one and two weeks.
