The City applies for grants to fund City projects.

CALRecycle RAC Grant
Funded by a grant from CalRecycle, the City of Pleasant Hill resurfaced 20 residential streets and one collector street in the College Park and Ellinwood subdivisions this summer with a Rubberized Asphalt Concrete Cape Seal (rubberized chip seal followed by a microsurfacing seal). CalRecycle’s Rubberized Asphalt Concrete (RAC) Chip Seal Grant Program provides assistance to local governments to fund RAC chip seal projects, and the opportunity to divert waste tires from landfill disposal.

The 2011 Street Resurfacing Project utilized approximately 76,500-square-yards of RAC chip seal, which recycled approximately 4,785 used rubber tires into the new roadway surface. As well as recycling used tires, the use of the RAC chip seal in lieu of conventional pavement materials eliminates the need for a more expensive resurfacing treatment. This allowed the City the rehabilitate more streets. For more information on this innovative new program, contact the Engineering Division at (925) 671-5260.
