Home Burglary Prevention Tips
Keep Your Home Safe
  • Install deadbolt locks with a 1" metal bar on all non-sliding exterior doors.
  • Garage doors should always be closed and locked.
  • Keep all doors and windows closed and securely fastened.
  • Never hide a spare key under the doormat, flowerpot, or any obvious location.
  • Store tools and ladders out of sight and locked away.
  • Keep shrubbery trimmed away from doors and windows.
  • Burglars only need a minute to break in.
  • Make sure the perimeter of your home is well lit.
  • Create the illusion you are home by using timers on lights, radios, or televisions.
  • Leave a vehicle parked in your parking area.
  • Keep some blinds, shades, or curtains open to maintain the appearance you are home.
  • Do not leave a message on an answering machine indicating you are away from home.
  • Call the Community Resource Officer at (925) 288-4637 for a crime prevention analysis of your home or for information on Neighborhood Watch.
  • Report suspicious persons to the police at (925) 288-4600, or if you witness a burglary, please call 9-1-1.
