Karen Mitchoff was elected to the City Council on November 4, 2008 for a four year term and was elected Mayor on December 7, 2009.
Karen was born in Portland, Oregon. Her father was transferred to California in 1962 when she was a young girl, and the family moved to Pleasant Hill in 1965. She attended Gregory Gardens, Valley View, College Park, and DVC (AA degree in business). She returned to college in 2000 to complete her studies (while working full time) and graduated in 2002 from Cal State East Bay with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development.
Karen was appointed to the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District Board of Directors in February 2003 and was elected to that Board in 2004 and 2006. She served a two-year term as Chair in 2005 and 2006, and served on a variety of committees during her tenure there.
In 1988, she was appointed to the Pleasant Hill Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Redevelopment and was then appointed in 1992 to the Planning Commission where she served as Chair in 1995.
Karen is an associate member of the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce. She is involved in church activities, is an avid supporter of the library (she reads an average of 60 books each year), and loves animals.
Karen is an administrative analyst for Contra Costa County where her duties include monitoring legislation affecting human services, special projects, and fiscal issues.
