Household Hazardous Waste or HHW includes items such as poisons, paints, oil, solvents, automotive fluids, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides and many common household products must not be dumped into the regular garbage.
It is also ILLEGAL to dispose in the trash or landfill items such as Household Batteries, Fluorescent Tubes, Mercury Thermometers and many Electronic Devices.
Check your house, garage, and yard for common household products (such as cleaners, paints, car products, and pesticides) that may be hazardous to you, your children, your pets or our environment.
Read the Labels – look for words such as Danger, Warning, Caution, Poisonous, Deadly and Flammable on the labels – these products are harmful. Do not put such materials in garbage cans or storm drains – And in most cases it is Illegal to do so.

Pleasant Hill residents can drop-off household hazardous waste for free. The Central Contra Costa Sanitary District HHW drop-off facility accepts most types of household hazardous waste for free - including paints, adhesives and garden chemicals. FREE Battery Drop-off
Pleasant Hill residents can drop-off household “disposable” batteries ( NO car batteries – NO rechargeable batteries ) at City Hall, 100 Gregory Lane. Drop batteries in the blue recycling container located in the lobby of City Hall.
