Weekly Project Updates
Ghilotti Brothers, Inc. is making significant progress on the construction of the Pleasant Hill Road Improvement Project, Phase 1. If weather permits, within the next couple of weeks the contractor will complete the construction of the ADA-compliant ramps; modular block retaining walls at the Westover Drive intersection; repair of all damaged sidewalks and fences; installation of all landscaping and miscellaneous traffic signal work; and rehabilitation of the masonry wall on the east side of Pleasant Hill Road between Westover Drive and Gregory Lane (which will receive a coat of paint), and miscellaneous street striping.
Due to long manufacture lead times for the new traffic signals and street light poles, the contractor will be on hold after the above work is completed (through mid-May) until the new poles are received. A second project and phase to reconstruct the pavement is out to bid and anticipated to begin by June.

Within the next couple of weeks, the contractor anticipates the completion of the street light and traffic signal foundations, installation of a new irrigation system along the medians, and asphalt paving work along the new median curbs. The ongoing excavation and construction of ADA-compliant ramps and repair of damaged sidewalks and curb and gutter will continue through the middle of March. EBMUD crews are scheduled to be on-site at the end of February to remove water meters and relocate air valves.
Valley View Road will be closed at Pleasant Hill Road in late February while the contractor installs a new concrete valley gutter at this intersection. Detours will be in place.
New street lights and traffic signal poles are expected to be delivered in April or May, with installation to follow.
Phase 2 of this project, pavement reconstruction, is under a separate federal grant contract and process, and is currently out to bid, with construction anticipated to begin as early as May.
After the holiday hiatus, Ghilotti Brothers, Inc. returned to work on Jan. 6 and is making progress on the project. Work activities are focused on construction of the raised concrete medians; installation of irrigation and electrical systems along the medians and select crossings; street light foundations; and installation of root barriers throughout the entire project corridor over the next several weeks (weather permitting). During the week of Jan. 27, the contractor is scheduled to begin patch paving operations along the new median curbs. All lanes are now open during non-work hours. Minor traffic delays are anticipated through April 2020.
Pleasant Hill Road improvements continue. Contractor Ghilotti Brothers, Inc. continues to form and pour concrete curbs for the new medians along the project corridor working from Taylor Boulevard south to Gregory Lane; to date, the vertical curb between Taylor Boulevard to Linda Lane has been substantially completed. Linda to Mercury is currently being formed. Electrical subcontractor Columbia Electric continues to install conduits for new street lights and the new signal interconnect system within the medians, with work completed to Westover Lane as they work south to Valley View. Starting next week, the contractor will be off for the holidays for two weeks and resume construction activities on Jan. 6. Some minor activities may be scheduled. Due to the weather, activities are being scheduled as site conditions permit. Northbound traffic continues to be limited to one lane between Valley View Road and Linda Lane at all times. All work is on schedule and this phase of the project should be completed (weather permitting) by May 2020.
